Yesterday, AV-Comparatives, the independent test laboratory, released results of the latest Whole-Product Dynamic Real-World Protection Test for February 2018. Such tests will be performed five months in a row and then detailed overall results will be published in July and December. Each of the overall result reports will include false-alarm test and will contain the awards the products received based on their overall scores during the five-month period.
Test details and used methodology
The Real-World Protection Test is being said the most comprehensive and complex test available with a lot of test cases. It’s running on Microsoft Windows 10 RS3 64-bit version with up-to-date third-party software, such as Adobe Flash, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Java, etc. Malicious URLs for the test are picked very carefully. Due to the up-to-date system and 3rd party products most of the vulnerabilities are patched and it’s difficult to find samples that are still able to deliver the exploits. This clearly shows that keeping your system and applications up-to-date can dramatically decrease the risk of being compromised.
The results are based on the test set of 203 live test cases – malicious URLs found in the field including working exploits and URLs pointing directly to malware. This way exactly same infection vectors are used as a typical user would experience in everyday life. The test cases cover a wide range of current malicious sites and provide insights into the protection provided by the various products while surfing the web.
The following products were tested (in alphabetical order):
- Avast Free Antivirus
